Improvements in Prostate Cancer Management: Focus on Imaging and Treatment

Prostate cancer has traditionally been staged through the use of conventional imaging techniques such as bone scintigraphy, CT, and MRI. However, introduction more sensitive techniques, prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) imaging, allowed previously undetectable metastases to be identified, thereby enabling accurate staging disease greater refinement in management strategies. This article summarises a symposium delivered on 3rd July 2022 at 37th European Association Urology (EAU) Annual Congress Amsterdam, Netherlands, where speakers from three different specialties raised important questions prostate imaging. Stefano Fanti, Professor Diagnostic Imaging/Director S. Orsola Policlinic Hospital, Bologna, Italy, asked: “What is PSMA all about?”, Jochen Walz, Head, Department Institut Paoli-Calmettes Cancer Centre, Marseille, France, wondered: “When does help me?” Alicia Morgans, Genitourinary Medical Oncologist/Medical Director Dana-Faber Institute, USA, then offered an overview future management. The session concluded with presentation cases patients stages cancer, which illustrated transformative benefit accurately directing subsequent treatment options.
